Recently, on a forum with over 1 million members, a woman named T.L. eagerly shared the story of her and her husband buying a phone with money they saved up in a piggy bank:
“Every day my wife gives me one bill to put in the piggy bank, working hard in the sun and rain finally pays off. Just be good, brothers, and everyone will get a gift. When buying a phone, you should bring cash by weight because swiping a card is too normal. I apologize on behalf of my husband to the sellers if they get annoyed, please forgive us.”
Along with her post, T.L. shared a photo of her husband focused on counting a large stack of bills on the table. Notably, all of them were… 500 dong notes. Nearly a dozen employees at the phone store had to “bend over”, carefully counting each bill as meticulously as possible to avoid mixing them up.

This action quickly attracted special attention, accompanied by thousands of mixed opinions from netizens.
Many comments criticized the couple as inconsiderate, disrespectful to others, and intentionally “creating work” for shop employees just to take “cool” photos. Perhaps due to receiving too much negativity, the original poster disabled comments, “refusing” to accept further criticism:
– “Is taking a cool photo worth it? This is just inconsiderate.”
– “I feel sorry for the salespeople.”
– “What’s the point of posting it and then getting criticized? Honestly, if I were the store owner, I would refuse these kinds of situations right away.”
– “What if the staff finished counting and then said they weren’t buying anymore?”

However, some people came to the couple’s defense, arguing that in reality, the 500 dong note is still in circulation and this action doesn’t violate any laws or display rudeness.
– “I think it’s just their preference and they might really have saved that much money. The 500 dong bill is still used, right? Think a little more openly and don’t be so difficult.”
– “It does look a bit funny, but they aren’t doing anything illegal or rude, are they?”
