A man dubbed the “first and only resilient entrepreneur and martial artist of Turkey” has been making a living in a way that no one could imagine.
For the past 11 years, Hasan Riza Gunay has been ready to act as a punching bag for people to unleash their frustrations without complaining or fighting back! In fact, he has made a lot of money from this.
Hasan Riza Gunay started this profession of being a punching bag in 2010 after finding inspiration in the classic film by Turkish director Kemal Sunal Sark Bulbulu (The Eastern Nightingale), where the main character voluntarily allows himself to be hit.

He realized that while some people find stress relief through exercise, meditation, or sleep, others need to vent by shouting or fighting.
Therefore, Hasan Riza Gunay decided to become a mobile punching bag and accepts being hit without resistance. Of course, those people must pay a considerable amount to beat him up freely.
Typically, Gunay wears a mask of the person that the clients are upset with, encouraging them to curse at him and release all their anger.
Gunay told the Turkish news agency Anadolu: “Most of my clients are depressed or anxious due to their daily work.”
Occasionally, there are some incidents, but Hasan Riza Gunay reminds himself never to take it personally. He always views these stress relief sessions as scenes from a movie, where the person hitting him is the main character.
Thus, Gunay’s work motto is to never take offense when being hit or to utter insults against clients.

Most of his clients are women (about 70%) who have strength equivalent to boys aged 12 to 14, so he doesn’t really worry about getting hurt.
Each session lasts only about 10 to 15 minutes, and Gunay only accepts a maximum of four clients per day. If Gunay feels that someone does not have a valid reason to use the service or simply wants to hit him for entertainment, he will not accept them.
In fact, Hasan Riza Gunay requires all his clients to sign a document stating that he does this willingly so that clients can relieve stress without facing potential legal consequences in case of injury.
