He traveled from the U.S. via South Korea and then entered Tan Son Nhat Airport on January 28, 2021. The test result on January 29, 2021, was positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Ho Chi Minh City also confirmed 1 community infection case . This is a 28-year-old male, residing in Hai Duong province, with a history of contact with patient BN1612, a previous case at the outbreak site in Chi Linh City, Hai Duong province.

Gia Lai province reported 2 cases, which are a married couple, residing in Ayun Pa town, Gia Lai province, and are linked to the previous case BN1612 from the outbreak in Chi Linh City, Hai Duong province.
Hanoi reported 2 cases: 1 male patient, 40 years old, residing in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi, with a history of contact with patient BN1584, and 1 male patient, 34 years old, residing in Dong Anh district, Hanoi, with a history of contact with patient BN1694.
Quang Ninh province reported 4 cases which are linked to previous patients at the outbreak site in Chi Linh City, Hai Duong province.
Hai Duong province reported 18 new cases, with epidemiological information currently being further investigated.
On the same day, according to the report from the Treatment Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention, 8 patients were declared cured.
Thus, to date, the country has 1,767 Covid-19 patients, 1,456 have recovered, and 35 have died. Currently, 21,857 people who have close contact or entered from epidemic areas are being monitored for health (quarantine).
