Sometimes, a game loved by countless players still has moments that make them shudder or even feel terrified. It could be a grotesque monster or a jump scare, but often the most haunting memory etched in a gamer’s mind will be a room filled with dread. Not necessarily horror games, some other genres also have bizarre rooms that contain messages that surprise players. Thus, there will be many rooms that gamers might regret entering, and here are the top 10 such rooms for you to be aware of.

Dampe’s Grave – Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
Ocarina Of Time is a groundbreaking installment in the legendary Legend of Zelda series. This marks the transition of this franchise into the 3D era on the N64 platform. Additionally, it introduced a time travel mechanic.

When waking up in the future, Link is greeted by Rauru – one of the six sages – who informs him that he needs to find the remaining sages to stop Ganon, who is occupying Hyrule Castle. The first stop is the Forest Temple, but before you can proceed, you must visit the graveyard of Kakariko Village to retrieve a tool called the “hookshot.”

To complete this quest, you must explore Dampe’s grave – the gravekeeper who died seven years prior. Upon arrival, Dampe’s ghost challenges the main character to a race. However, if you accidentally take a wrong turn, you might regret it.

Just like some desolate areas of Hyrule in the future, Dampe’s grave also features ReDead – one of the scariest monsters in this series. When these creatures see you, they will scream, causing Link to become paralyzed, as if shocked by overwhelming fear. Essentially, you might find it difficult to win this race, but Dampe still gives Link the “hookshot.” While this isn’t a room like others in this list, Dampe’s grave remains a horrifying place for players.
Hotel Basement – The Last Of Us
There’s no denying that The Last Of Us made a significant impact upon its release in 2013. Naughty Dog’s masterpiece allowed PS3 gamers to experience a thrilling narrative, along with compelling performances from the game’s characters. Despite receiving “a shower of praise,” the game still has a scene that makes players want to smash their controllers, which occurs when entering the hotel basement.

After playing about a third of the game, Joel and Ellie enter Pittsburgh and find an old hotel. Unfortunately for Joel, he falls into a flooded basement, leaving Ellie above. Joel must find a generator to open a door back to the upper floor. It sounds simple enough… until you turn on the generator. At this point, a horde of infected beings rush towards you, including the terrifying Bloater.

This basement looks damp, disgusting, covered in mold, and it’s pitch black. All of this creates an extremely uncomfortable atmosphere for players, making it one of the most intense scenes in The Last Of Us.
Bathroom – P.T.
The horror game P.T., developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami, made a huge impact in the gaming community when it was released in 2014. The game features a haunting detail that leaves a lasting impression on anyone who has played it to this day.

This occurs when players are trapped in a dark hallway and begin to hear noises from the bathroom. Upon entering, the door suddenly slams shut, locking you in a dark room with a flickering flashlight, just enough to see something you might wish you hadn’t.

There, in a filthy sink, is a deformed fetus crying and writhing in pain before it begins to speak in a voice from a radio. This is truly a horrifying scene for the faint-hearted. With P.T. regarded as a demo for a new Silent Hill game, this room raises questions for gamers about what Hideo Kojima intended to do next.
The Hive – Alien Isolation
Alien Isolation is undoubtedly one of the best adaptations in the entire series. Released in 2015, the game continues Amanda Ripley’s story as she searches for clues about her mother’s disappearance after 15 years.

When Amanda Ripley arrives at the Sevastopol space station to investigate, she realizes that the entire station has been ravaged by the Xenomorph alien. The creature hunts her down in every nook and cranny of the space station, with every step in this game delivering an intense thrill for players.

Finally, after defeating them, Amanda heads to the station’s reactor area. There, she discovers that it has become a Xenomorph nest, and she also finds the victims who had been used as hosts. They had been implanted with Xenomorph eggs, and when the alien larvae began to hatch, they tore through their bodies to escape. This is probably the most haunting room in the game.
ADAM’s Office – Budget Cuts
Budget Cuts may not be a horror game, but it certainly can provide you with a genuinely tense experience. This is a virtual reality game that combines satire of many companies’ current situations with elements of stealth action.

The game will have you battling against an entire army of hostile robots. Towards the end of the game, you will reach the HR department only to discover that the CEO of Transcorp has been replaced by a robot named ADAM, who finds it entertaining to exterminate humans.

In this game scene, you need to retrieve a key from his office to level up. However, things are not that easy, as ADAM will try to take you out. He is not only immune to weapon damage but also incredibly agile. If you are quick enough, you can trap him in another room to easily grab the key. But if not, you better run, as that is your only option.
