After the first images of the revamped Fiddlesticks were released, many League of Legends players were eager and excited to discuss the terrifying appearance of this champion. There are even hypotheses suggesting that Fiddlesticks is the demon that Swain “outplayed” and lost his arm to, backed by very convincing evidence. Let’s dive deeper!
Similarities in Skills and Color Palette
The most noticeable aspect is the color tone of the two champions’ abilities; both Swain’s and Fiddlesticks’ skills have the distinct black and red colors that are unmistakable from any other champion. More importantly, both have a circular red area-of-effect ultimate that utilizes crows.
Missing Pieces in Swain’s Story
In the lore, Swain is constantly seeking the demon that resides within the Immortal Fortress – the capital of Noxus. Unlike the bloody endings of many who seek demonic power, Swain manages to “turn the tables” at the last moment and conquer the malevolent spirit, taking part of its power.
However, a significant portion of the story is lost as it does not mention how Swain did this, nor who the demon he “outplayed” is.
Notice Fiddlesticks’ right arm after the rework; it is entirely metallic and much longer than his left arm. In fact, Fiddlesticks does not even bother to control it like his left arm, dragging it along the ground as he moves. This indicates that the Ancient Demon also struggles to control things that do not belong to its body.
Mysterious Repetitions of the Number “3”
According to what Riot Games shared, Fiddlesticks is a demon from ancient times who has hunted humans for centuries, and in Swain’s biography, he also mentions that the demon he “made a pact with” has existed for many centuries.
Fiddlesticks is essentially a puppet, and the “brain” of this puppet is the cage located in the middle of its chest, imprisoning a demon inside and has “3” eyes. Coincidentally, the raven on Swain’s shoulder in the default wallpaper also has 3 eyes, although one is quite obscured.
Moreover, Fiddlesticks has a bunch of 3 keys around his neck, and the fourth key was stolen by Zoe – the Aspect of Twilight. What are these keys for? Unlocking the cage and freeing it?
Bird Motifs Between Swain and Fiddlesticks
Essentially, both Fiddlesticks and Swain are related to Crows; however, Swain calls his crows Ravens, while those of Fiddlesticks are referred to as Crows by Riot Games.
Semantically, Raven and Crow both mean Crow in Vietnamese, a bird known for its superior intelligence. However, there are some notable differences between these two names:
Feathers: Ravens are brighter than Crows. Size: Ravens are significantly larger than Crows. Beaks: Ravens have more curved, larger, and stronger beaks than Crows. Wingspan: Ravens have a wider wingspan than Crows. Lifespan: Ravens live longer than Crows.
Through the details of Raven and Crow, we can see that Swain, after stripping away part of the power (Fiddlesticks’ right arm), became stronger and gained the upper hand, while Fiddlesticks remained imprisoned and restrained, holding onto the remaining powers inside the cage.
Conclusion
After piecing together these details, we can easily visualize a Fiddlesticks as follows:
Fiddlesticks is an Ancient Demon who has been hunting humans for a long time and has been sealed by some force within a puppet. However, that demon manipulates the puppet and has found all 4 keys to unlock the cage, just as Zoe appeared and took the last crucial key.
Therefore, Fiddlesticks has become more bloodthirsty and slaughtered more people to collect their souls to discover the whereabouts of the fourth key. The great massacre in the conflict between Noxus and Ionia has drawn Fiddlesticks in, allowing him to absorb countless souls.
The moment Swain collapsed after Irelia “lightly asked” for his arm and walked away, Fiddlesticks appeared, but unfortunately, Swain did not die and was discovered. Swain made a pact with the Ancient Demon and concealed him within the Immortal Fortress before he found a way to “deceive” and strip the demon of its power.
