On the afternoon of April 29, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung chaired a teleconference with the Hanoi Covid-19 Prevention and Control Steering Committee. According to expert assessments, Vietnam is currently managing the epidemic well. From April 16 to now (13 days), the entire country has not recorded any new cases of community transmission, and Hanoi has gone 14 days without any new cases. Based on this situation, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung decided on the school reopening schedule, specifically:
Students in middle schools and high schools (including students studying the middle school and high school programs at vocational education centers and continuing education centers), universities, colleges, and intermediate schools under the city will resume classes according to the plan starting from May 4, 2020 (Monday).
Preschool children and elementary school students will return to classes starting from May 11, 2020 (Monday).
For language centers, computer centers, cultural training centers, skill centers, and study abroad consulting centers: They must assess the safety level of Covid-19 prevention according to the Ministry of Education and Training’s criteria for evaluating the safety level in schools. If deemed safe, they can resume activities starting from May 4, 2020 (Monday).

Schools and educational institutions are required to check and review their preparations for students’ return to school; to disseminate and guide students and parents to comply with the regulations on epidemic prevention.
To date, 36 localities have implemented the return of students to classes after several weeks of school closures due to Covid-19. Notably, Hai Phong and Dien Bien have allowed students at all levels to return to school, while other provinces and cities are gradually implementing the reopening for different student groups, prioritizing final-year students.
