Recently, the official fanpage of VTV24 apologized for using sensitive images of a famous South Korean gamer in one of their programs.
Specifically, during a livestream titled “Behind the Success of Professional Gamers,” the VTV24 team used an image of a gamer (from the game League of Legends) hitting his head against a wall after losing a match. Many fans of the male gamer “attacked” the fanpage after this image went “on air” because they found it a painful event that they did not want to be reminded of.
In response to these comments, the VTV24 fanpage apologized for the program team’s lack of sensitivity and announced that they would remove the image, while still retaining the journey of the entire team to become professional gamers.
Specifically, the verbatim apology was publicly posted as follows:
“The live session at 8 PM on November 5, 2024, with the theme ‘BEHIND THE SUCCESS OF PROFESSIONAL GAMERS’ discussed the increasingly professional development of gaming communities in Vietnam with many achievements in prestigious international tournaments.
At the same time, the team also hoped that the general audience would better understand the immense difficulties and pressures that professional gamers face, which affect both their physical and mental health in striving for glory in their careers.
In this content, the team referenced an image of a famous gamer engaging in an action that many fans did not want to recall (only using blurred images, not clips). Although they only intended for the community to understand and share the pressures faced by professional gamers, mentioning this story inadvertently resurrected negative feelings in the gamer community.
The team sincerely apologizes for the insensitivity in using this detail. We have removed that image and retained the other parts of the program that share the journey of becoming a professional gamer.
Once again, we apologize and thank our esteemed audience!”.
Although they have issued an apology, viewers still left “angry” icons under the post about the program on VTV24.
It is known that the main content of the live session was about the increasingly professional development of gaming communities in Vietnam with impressive achievements in international tournaments. The hosts of the program included BTV Son Lam, Thuy Van, along with two guest players who are famous Vietnamese gamers: Le Ha Anh Tuan (born 2008) and Do Trung Thanh (nickname: Thanh Mu, born 1993).
