Yesterday, VTV24 news center reported on a tragic case involving a young gamer only 13 years old. The cause of the incident, according to VTV24, was due to anger at his father for not buying him a phone as promised at the end of the school year, leading the child to drink pesticide.
Fortunately, this incident did not affect the young gamer’s life. Although admitted to the hospital in critical condition, the child showed signs of confusion, lethargy, cyanosis, weak breathing, excessive phlegm production, and pupils constricted to about 1mm. According to VTV, “This also serves as a reminder for parents to restrain their words towards children in moments of anger, especially for teenagers in sensitive age groups. This can cause harm to children and have negative thoughts.”

This incident has sparked mixed opinions across the online community. Some comments suggest that this young gamer acted recklessly and impulsively. However, most comments argue that the adults involved in this situation also played a significant role in the unfortunate outcome.
“If you promised to buy it, you should do it; otherwise, never make promises to your child. Children always believe in their parents’ promises. Back in second grade, my mom promised to buy me a piano if I studied well, but when I achieved good results, she didn’t agree, saying it was because of my teacher’s help. Since then, I no longer trust any of my mother’s promises. Now that I have a child, I will only promise if I can keep it.” A Facebook user commented.

Other comments suggest that “Both sides are at fault. Parents make promises they don’t keep, while children are still immature and impulsive at this age.” “That’s true, “not buying as promised”, how can adults educate if they don’t follow through? The child is also to blame. If you can make a promise, you should be able to keep it; children at this age are very impulsive.”
This is not the first time VTV has addressed issues related to gamers or online gaming. Recently, VTV has continuously highlighted issues such as gaming addiction, lack of content regulation, inadequate age control for gamers, and unlimited playtime. Numerous prominent names in the Vietnamese gaming scene, such as Liên Quân Mobile and PUBG Mobile, have been featured on air.
