Every year is the same, alongside the rumors of Half-Life 3 are predictions about a remake of Diablo II. Gamers still hope Blizzard will grant their wishes, despite being deeply disappointed with WarCraft 3: Reforged not long ago. However, veteran players still await the day to run around Tristram, hunt bosses, and collect runes in 4K graphics.
Tired of waiting for Blizzard (especially given that the quality is not even high), YouTuber Michael ReznoR took it upon himself to remake the graphics and sound of Diablo II. Utilizing the power of machine learning and Advanced Motion Interpolation technology, Michael ReznoR made the character movements and actions smoother, with HD graphics as if the game were made in this era. This remake of Diablo retains the original 4:3 aspect ratio of the old square screen, only changing the resolution and the frame rate from the old limit of 25 fps to 60 fps.
The graphics are not the only thing that received special care. Environmental effects and 3D sound are also clearly present. You can notice the difference in background sound when entering and exiting the Den of Evil, the first quest area in Diablo II.
The video above is only in 1080p; you can click on this YouTube link to experience the 4K version of Diablo II. I advise you not to watch the video at 720p, as it is no different from the original 600p video, so you won’t notice any difference. Additionally, this playlist is a compilation of short clips introducing each Act, all of which have been remade graphically using AI.
The AI took 10 days and nights to create the above video, with a database of 50,244 files, occupying 390GB of hard drive space. You definitely wouldn’t want it to waste its efforts just for you to watch a 720p version that isn’t even HD.

In our memories, Diablo II was beautiful, and character movements were smooth, but the reality was quite different; Diablo II is too pixelated by today’s game standards, and after so many breakthroughs in the gaming industry, it’s hard to enjoy a game running at just 25 fps. YouTuber Michael ReznoR not only remade a legendary game but also “HD-ified” the childhoods of many.
Unfortunately, this is just a series of videos showing how beautiful a remake of Diablo II can be, making fans crave for it while also setting a high bar for Blizzard to strive for; even official quality must be somewhat like this, or else no one will buy it.
However, I would like to introduce you to Project Diablo 2, a mod that remakes the graphics and enhances Diablo II as you know it. The veteran fan team intends to change the item combination system to balance character builds better, along with small changes to make the gameplay smoother and regular updates each season.

Remaking old skills.

Adding new skills.

Adding new challenges and much more.
Project Diablo 2 is expected to officially launch in “late summer and early spring”; I will update you on the project’s progress as soon as it goes live. This mod will require players to already own Diablo II, which you can purchase both Diablo II and the Lord of Destruction expansion from Blizzard’s store.
