The National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced this morning on August 1st that Vietnam has recorded one more death, which is patient number 499.
Accordingly, patient 499 is Mrs. T.T.B.T., 68 years old, residing at Trần Cao Vân Street, Xuân Hà Ward, Thanh Khê District, Da Nang City. Her medical history includes acute lymphoblastic leukemia, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. The patient was being treated for blood cancer (leukemia) at the Neurology Department of Da Nang Hospital and was discharged on July 23.
Afterward, she had a cough and fever and returned for examination at the Oncology Hospital. Test results showed positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on July 30.

She developed complications of bone marrow failure, respiratory failure, and circulatory failure. By 7 PM on July 31, her respiratory distress worsened. The doctors proceeded to intubate, put her on a ventilator, and consulted directly with experts from the Ministry of Health.
By 10:30 PM, the consultation and treatment were unsuccessful. The patient continued on the ventilator with high-dose vasopressors.
Professor Nguyễn Gia Bình, Chairman of the Intensive Care Society and a member of the Treatment Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, informed that the patient died at 4:55 AM on August 1 at the Oncology Hospital in Da Nang due to malignant blood cancer that did not respond to chemotherapy in the end stage, severe pneumonia, and Covid-19.
This is the third Covid-19 patient to die with underlying health conditions and Covid-19 in our country to date. Yesterday, two deaths were reported: patient 428 (due to myocardial infarction with underlying health conditions and Covid-19) and patient 437 (due to septic shock with severe underlying conditions and Covid-19).
