Starting trends and “jumping” on trends is an essential part of social media. Each year brings a slew of hot phrases and viral sayings that everyone must use at least once. Sometimes, it might just be a casual remark, but it resonates with netizens. If you keep scrolling through social media, you’ll surely see people using these phrases enthusiastically and widely. In fact, if you happen to “turn off your computer” for just one day, you’ll instantly feel like a “prehistoric person” who can’t keep up with trends.
2022 can be said to be the year when TikTok rose to prominence as many phrases and sayings originated from this social media platform. Below is the list of the most viral phrases from 2022!
1. Ét ô Ét

Since the beginning of this year, you can hear netizens everywhere saying “Ét ô ét”. Rising gold prices, increasing gas prices, exes proposing marriage, sharing funny videos on social media,… all are associated with “Ét ô ét”.
This phrase is said to have originated from a video on the TikTok channel of Bà Toàn Vlog. In the clip, when asked “Are you being pressured? Give a signal”, the woman in the clip looked at the camera and said “Ét ô ét, ét ô ét” (which means SOS).
With its humorous way of speaking and the context that is equally funny, this sound was immediately used in other viral clips. Since then, the phrase has become increasingly popular and widely used. To this day, it remains the most used phrase of 2022.

2. Gét Gô

Also originating from TikTok, this phrase comes from Tới Trời Thần’s (@anhtoi4) channel. In one of his clips, he stated that he would take on a challenge of 6 days and 6 nights in the mud. To boost his determination, he shouted the slogan: “Gét gô”.
This is actually the way of pronouncing “Let’s go” in English. However, with its unique pronunciation, this seemingly simple phrase became super hot and widely used. Additionally, many people didn’t forget to combine it with the phrase “6 days 6 nights challenge”, creating a perfect trend combo.

3. Làm quá nó ô dề

At one point, “ô dề” became a catchphrase among most netizens. Initially, many people thought it was just a different way of saying “oh yeah.” However, the meaning of this word refers to things that are exaggerated and unique.
Specifically, in a TikTok clip, the main character, despite heavy and flashy makeup, still said: “Just do it lightly, doing too much is ridiculous, doing too much is ô dề.” The contrast between this statement and the character’s expression made this phrase go viral on TikTok and then spread to Facebook. Since then, it has been added to the internet lexicon, becoming a familiar saying that everyone understands.

4. Thì ra, mùa xuân hoa nở, là vì em

A phrase used to subtly compliment a girlfriend’s beauty but also became a trend, can only be thanks to TikTok. Accordingly, a young man recorded his voice saying: “Thì ra, mùa xuân hoa nở, là vì em” and combined it with the music from the song “You’ll get over it” by DJ John to create a video for his girlfriend.
The combination of his warm voice and the beat became very fitting, sounding extremely catchy, which delighted netizens. Not only did they use the phrase, but many also created dance moves, helping the phrase spread even further.

5. Sao hay ra dẻ quá!

If there were a vote, many would say this is the most breakthrough phrase of 2022. Although it didn’t originate from TikTok, this saying became extremely popular, used widely in the latter half of 2022.
Specifically, the phrase was popularized by comedian Lê Dương Bảo Lâm. While participating in the show “2 Days 1 Night”, he repeatedly used this phrase when someone exaggerated or pretended to know a lot about something. Combined with Lê Dương Bảo Lâm’s “ô dề” expression, the phrase became even more humorous and interesting. So hot was it that he even released a song with the same title as a keepsake.

6. Hé lô bà dà, bất ngờ chưa bà dà

The origin of this phrase comes from a clip by a TikToker named “EYEIYAGI bất ổn”. What makes it interesting is that the clip features a character “em” who greets with “hello bà già” with a humorous and charming face. Due to the cuteness brought by the clip, many netizens commented “bất ngờ chưa bà già”.
Since then, this phrase has also become a catchphrase for many young people. There are some negative variations that are not well received by the online community, but overall, people still consider this a fun trend for entertainment.

7. Hê sờ lô hơ sờ ly ly

“Hê sờ lô hơ sờ ly ly” is a special line from Trung “trâu” – a character played by Duy Hưng in the TV series Ga-ra hạnh phúc. In the show, Trung “trâu” is a funny and kind-hearted guy who speaks in a very unique way. After each word, he often adds the sound “sờ” for emphasis. Many of his lines became viral on social media because of this speaking style.
In fact, “hê sờ lô hơ sờ ly ly” is just a playful way of saying the English greeting: Hello honey. However, in the show, partly due to his poor English pronunciation and partly due to the habit of adding “sờ” at the end of his sentences, it accidentally created a phrase that sounds unique and funny.

8. Mai Đẹt-ti-ni

Originating from a line in a Thai movie that has recently captivated Asian audiences, “Mai đẹt-ti-ni” has gradually become a catchphrase among many young people. “Mai đẹt-ti-ni” (in English: My destiny) is understood as someone finding their life’s destiny.
In the movie, after going through challenges and difficulties that seemed to separate them forever, the male and female leads achieve a happy ending. “Mai đẹt-ti-ni” is the line the female lead says to her lover, meaning: “You are the destiny of my life”. After the movie gained popularity, young people also started using this phrase when posting pictures with their loved ones or things they cherish.

9. Ú òa

“Ú òa” is not a strange phrase as it is originally a traditional hide-and-seek game often played with young children. However, this phrase went viral when it appeared in the hit song Waiting for you by MONO.
Not to mention, when combined with dance moves and expressions in the performance, “ú òa” became a meme of his own. Almost everyone finds themselves humming the lyrics: “But it’s so bitter to know that… ú òa… I’m just a person who came last”.

10. Bing Chilling

This phrase is not just any phrase; it was also one of the most searched phrases on Google in 2022! It is known to be one of the famous memes worldwide, but it has only recently gained popularity in Vietnam.
Specifically, the clip of actor John Cena eating ice cream while speaking Chinese to promote his movie went viral due to his unusual pronunciation and his adorably awkward facial expressions. When this trend hit Vietnam, young people rushed to cover this clip, causing the phrase Bing Chilling to “make waves” across the internet.
