With the Covid-19 pandemic evolving in a complex manner in many countries around the world, one of the best measures many people are taking right now is staying at home, limiting visits to crowded places to prevent the risk of infection. Of course, no one enjoys being cooped up in their apartment day in and day out, except for the “boss” dogs – humanity’s loyal companions. Now, the whole family is always at home, and the atmosphere is lively, so how could the “boss” not be happy?

One of the signs that your dog is extremely happy and excited is when they wag their tail continuously; the more joyful they are, the faster the wagging. However, too much of a good thing can be harmful, as there have been many cases of tail sprains just from wagging too much in excitement when their owner is home.

Covid-19 has made this dog's home always lively, and he is so happy that he sprained his tail from wagging too much.
Covid-19 has made this dog’s home always lively, and he is so happy that he sprained his tail from wagging too much.

Recently, user Emma Smith, currently living in Essex, England, shared this funny story on Twitter: “My dog is so happy that everyone is in lockdown at home that its tail just stopped working. After taking him to the vet, the doctor concluded that he sprained it just from wagging too much.”

Emma’s post quickly attracted attention from the online community with 1 million likes and nearly 140,000 retweets. Most netizens expressed similar feelings, unsure whether to react with a sad or laughing emoji.

A day later, Emma posted another video of Rolo – her poor dog, with the caption: “I can’t believe something so funny happened. Thank you everyone for your concern; he has taken painkillers, and the vet said he’ll be fine in about a week. Right now it’s only the second day, but he seems very cheerful. His tail can wag slightly from side to side, but it doesn’t have the energy to perk up anymore.” This video also quickly garnered 1 million views on Twitter.

Rolo’s tail can only wag gently like this now, temporarily unable to be as lively as before.

The online community also took the opportunity of Rolo’s rare incident to share their own funny stories about their pets.

User Angel Brownawell shared: “My pet dog also experienced a similar situation when the whole family went on a picnic. Being able to run around freely made him a bit hyperactive, wagging his tail continuously and eventually sprained it too. But this injury healed quickly, and he is back to normal now. I hope Rolo will be the same!”

“There’s even a term for this issue! It’s called 'happy tail'. It occurs when dogs wag their tails so much that they get injured. This might be one of the saddest yet cutest things ever.”

“My dog also had a similar issue when he was younger. Every morning, he would wag his tail so much that he hit things around the house. This happened so frequently that his tail swelled up to a lump and he had to have 8 cm cut off his tail.”

“When I was a veterinarian, I treated a regular patient named Zeus - a dog that often sprained his tail. We even had to put a sign on Zeus's crate that said: 'Limit making Zeus happy,' otherwise he would wag his tail wildly.
