Located in northern Tanzania (Africa), Natron Lake is one of the famous lakes known for its stunning beauty with bright red color. However, it is more commonly known by the name “Deadly Lake”. The reason for this deadly name is that for thousands of years, any creature that slips and falls into the lake has its body turned to stone in a short time.

The “culprit” behind this strange phenomenon at Natron Lake is the one-million-year-old volcano named Ol Doinyo Lengai, located to the south of Natron Lake. Lava flowing down from the volcano carries a special amount of mineral salts.
The bodies of animals that fall into the lake are very well preserved, wrapped in layers of cement made of salt. With a pH level of about 9 – 10.5 and water temperatures that can reach up to 140 degrees F (60 degrees C), it is believed that Natron Lake is not an ideal home for living creatures.

However, let’s pose a thought-provoking question: What would happen if we accidentally fell into this ‘deadly’ lake? Recently, the YouTube channel What If created a video explaining what would happen if a human came into direct contact with the water that can ‘turn to stone’ any living creature.
