Kana Shindou, who is currently campaigning for a position on the Tokyo City Council as a member of a new party called Horiemon, came up with an idea for a campaign poster that is sure to catch the eye of those around.

As we can see, the poster features an extremely bold image of Kana daringly showcasing her voluptuous figure. Moreover, the flimsy, flirtatious bra, which seems like it could break at any moment, is actually made from face masks provided to households by the Japanese government as part of the COVID-19 prevention efforts.

In a brief interview below, Shindo explained that this poster is a critique of the Japanese government’s and Prime Minister Abe’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She stated: “This poster may be a bit bold, but I believe everyone understands the idea I want to convey…
What I mean is, ‘The government claims that this is the measure to deal with COVID, but honestly, is it reasonable to spend so much money just to give each household two flimsy masks?’ This is a satirical critique of the response to the coronavirus… That’s what I want to convey.”
I believe that most of us understand the “message” in the images, even though each person’s interpretation may vary.
