Recognizing that playing games all day is not good (back in my freshman year of college), I decided to outline a scientific and reasonable gaming schedule to protect my health and allocate time for other activities. So I came up with a method of only playing games in the morning or at night and explored which time is the most reasonable for gaming. And if you’re curious about why I had to go through the trouble of choosing these two times instead of just limiting my gaming hours, let’s dive in together.

At first, I didn’t know what the optimal times were for health when gaming, so I tried both morning and night. Morning here refers to early morning, around 6:00 or 6:30 AM, when I would wake up, and in the evening, I played games from 6 to 7 PM, and my rule was to play until 11 PM before taking a break. Overall, both times brought me different benefits, but there were also certain drawbacks. Let me share with you what those pros and cons are.
PROS
Morning:
As you all know, the feeling of waking up early always brings a burst of fresh energy and vitality, like waking up, taking a refreshing shower, preparing a dish, and sitting down at my gaming setup in a cool atmosphere—it’s fantastic. Although I faced some difficulties initially getting out of bed at 6 AM during the first few days, once I got used to it, it wasn’t too hard; many times I forgot to set my alarm, but by around 6:30, I was awake.
Waking up early also made it easier for me to sleep at night; normally, I would have to sleep by 1 AM, but now by 11 PM, I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Besides enjoying gaming leisurely, quietly, and happily, I also had time for many other activities during the day, like having lunch with friends, going to school to work on assignments, hitting the gym (in my early years, I lived close to school), napping a bit at school, attending classes, or playing soccer. By the time I got home at night, I was tired and would go to sleep right away.

Evening:
Although gaming in the morning has many health benefits, gaming in the evening likely always provides the best experiences for gamers. The feeling of finishing all the day’s tasks, turning on the air conditioner, and gaming with a can of Coca-Cola is very cozy and comfortable.
Friends are all around, parents have also relaxed, and no one disturbs you while gaming. Honestly, not many people enjoy waking up early; the feeling of wanting to sleep more but having to wake up isn’t appealing, so evening gaming makes me feel like I’m gaming for entertainment rather than as a daily obligation.

CONS
Morning:
Waking up early, of course, is something that no one likes. However, the biggest drawback I noticed is that in the early morning, there’s hardly anyone to game with—playing in the morning means you’re definitely going to be lonely. So for those who play offline, it’s fine, but if you’re into team games and playing in the morning, you can expect a quiet session.

Evening:
Returning to the old habit of gaming late into the night and waking up at noon. Although I have reduced my gaming time compared to before, this still significantly affects your health and makes you lose out on the morning, which is the most important part of the day. Additionally, there are times when I have morning classes, and because I gamed late, I couldn’t get up; sometimes I missed classes, which led to complaints from teachers, and that’s not good either.

After summarizing these points, I decided to divide my gaming schedule reasonably without forcing myself into any strict framework. On weekends, I play in the evening when friends are available, gaming freely and having fun. During weekdays, I enjoy the morning atmosphere while having a relaxing gaming session to kick off the day, allowing time for myself while still fulfilling my responsibilities for school and work. What about you? What is the most reasonable gaming time you have chosen? Please comment below so we can discuss together.
