A highly intense backlash is coming from the Chinese online community against Intel, the world’s leading electronic component manufacturer.
The reason for this stems from Intel’s request to suppliers not to provide products manufactured in Xinjiang. This decision by Intel has caused significant outrage among Chinese users. And although the world’s leading hardware manufacturer has issued an apology, the incident has not been overlooked.
The Global Times argues that Intel’s statement is truly unreasonable as the group has earned substantial revenue from the Xinjiang market, about 26% of total revenue in 2020, and Intel’s actions are akin to “biting the hand that feeds it.”
In an editorial, the newspaper also stated, “What we need to do is make companies pay a higher price for insulting China. They will incur more losses than profits.”
