HHT – Instagram is providing options for teenagers to limit the amount of sensitive content on the social network. In June, the platform added an option to further restrict such content. This option will soon be enabled by default for Instagram users in their teenage years.
According to a recent announcement from Meta, the update for Instagram’s Sensitive Content Control tool will default to the “Less” option for users under 16 years old. Currently, Instagram accounts created by teenagers have the “Standard” option enabled, and some sensitive content is still displayed.

According to Instagram, this change will make it harder for young people to access “potentially sensitive content” on the platform. The new settings will affect the Search, Explore, Story, Feed Recommendations, and Suggested Accounts tools…
However, this is not the only announcement Instagram has made to protect its teen users. Instagram will also remind teenagers to review their account settings, including options to control who can share their content, who can message them, and the amount of time they spend on Instagram. This popular messaging app also restricts how teenagers can send and receive messages from unknown users.

Instagram once “defied” changes to its recommendation algorithms to compete with TikTok, and users (especially parents) have become worried about what their children might see on social media. The new policy changes aimed at protecting users, especially teenagers from sensitive content, will help parents feel more at ease knowing their children are using Instagram.
