According to Facebook’s announcement, the world’s largest social network will file a lawsuit against online scam groups. The four Vietnamese individuals accused by Facebook include N.H.Thêm, L. Khang, N.Q.Bảo, and P.H.Dũng. These individuals are alleged to have used a “cookie stealing” technique to infiltrate the accounts of employees at advertising agencies, subsequently using them to run unauthorized advertisements.
These four individuals employed a scam technique by convincing their victims to install an Android app called Ad Manager for Facebook. This app illegally collected users’ login information and even accessed the victims’ Facebook accounts to start running ads on their behalf. Currently, this app has been removed from Google Play.
Notably, these four individuals also ran ads for the app to execute their online scam scheme. Facebook reported that according to their statistics, the amount of money that victims lost reached up to $36 million. The world’s largest social network stated that they have refunded the victims and implemented additional security measures for users’ accounts.
