Pokimane – the famous streamer on Twitch recently encountered a rather unusual situation when one of her viewers requested a refund for the money they donated to her.
For streamers, aside from revenue from subscriptions or ad money, donations from viewers are a significant source of income. Regularly livestreaming and having a large fan base, receiving massive donations, sometimes reaching hundreds or thousands of dollars, is quite normal for Pokimane. Receiving donations is one thing, remembering who donated is another. Therefore, the female streamer must have been “shocked” when she received a message from a viewer requesting a refund for a rather small donation of just $6 (about 130,000 VND).
This humorous story unfolded during Pokimane’s livestream on April 9. While chatting animatedly with her audience, she suddenly received a message along with a $2 donation from a viewer with the nickname “matthil”: “I hate to say this because I really like and support you, but could you refund me the $6 I donated? I did that 3 times, each time $2 four days ago. But… now the restaurant I work at is closed, and as a server, I’ve lost my job.”
Pokimane was shocked and silent for a moment. The female streamer was taken aback and thought about how to respond to this message. After that, Pokimane considered whether this was true or just a bizarre joke. She said: “I don’t know if you’re joking or not. If you’re serious, why would you donate $2 to ask for $6 back? Honestly, I can’t remember when you donated. I will try to refund you through PayPal, although I still hope you’re just joking.”
Whether this was a fact or just a playful tease from a mischievous viewer, it must be noted that Pokimane handled the situation very skillfully, winning the hearts of her fans. The tendency for streamers to show annoyance when asked for refunds, or to resort to various tricks to extract money from viewers is extremely common. Therefore, Pokimane’s wonderful act earned her even more affection and admiration from her audience.
