This morning (October 12), the personal pages of famous users on the social network Facebook experienced a significant drop in interaction. Along with that, the number of followers has been limited to below 10,000.
A typical example is singer Sơn Tùng M-TP, who previously had nearly 1 million followers and now only has 9,938, or streamer Độ Phùng (Độ Mixi), who once had over 2.5 million followers, now shows only 9,919 followers. Famous singers like Đông Nhi and Bích Phương, who had several million followers, are now displaying numbers below 10,000.
Renowned KOLs, who previously had millions of followers, now show numbers less than 10,000.
Initially, many people thought this was a new action by Facebook to “filter” out fake accounts. However, even the personal page of the CEO of this social network, Mark Zuckerberg, only shows 9,927 followers, despite originally having nearly 120 million followers.
This issue only appears on personal accounts; fan pages are unaffected.
Furthermore, this decrease is not similar to the incident where many celebrities saw a drop in followers in 2016. During that period, Facebook changed its API and scanned for fake accounts and likes, resulting in many accounts losing followers.
Currently, Facebook has not announced the status of the glitch or the reason for the large loss of followers on personal pages. However, many speculate that this could be a display error. When searching for the names of celebrities through the Facebook tool, the follower counts still display correctly. Additionally, the follower lists of personal pages are still intact when viewed in detail.
Since the beginning of 2022, Facebook, the largest social network in the world, has stated that it has removed about 1.4 billion accounts suspected of being fake, according to their Community Standards Enforcement Report. Three months ago, 1.6 billion fake accounts were removed from the platform.
On its Transparency Center page, the company stated that its goal is to remove as many fake accounts as possible. These accounts are identified as being created for malicious purposes to violate policies, with profiles created to represent a business, organization, or non-human entity.
Facebook has stated its priority is to enforce the removal of fake accounts that seek to cause harm. Many of these accounts are used in spam campaigns and have financial motives.
About a month ago, a minor issue occurred with the Facebook social network. During that time, many users in Vietnam encountered problems when they could not send document files. Additionally, some users experienced delays in Messenger messages, where messages would only arrive at the recipient’s device long after being sent. This issue occurred on both the Facebook website and the mobile Facebook app.
