You probably already know that the Epic Games Store has an event where they give away a free game every week. You may not be fond of this platform compared to Steam, but if you regularly grab the free games each week, your Epic game library is probably quite substantial by now. Epic Games founder – Tim Sweeney – stated that offering free games is also beneficial for the game companies that agree to participate in this program.
He mentioned that for games like Satisfactory, it won’t be easy to attract buyers. However, if you receive this game for free and start playing it, you’ll realize it’s a fantastic game. As a result, these game companies will become more well-known, helping to boost sales on other platforms like Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. Meanwhile, Epic also gains a lot of new participants in their ecosystem, creating a relationship where all parties benefit.

Other digital game-selling platforms like Humble and GOG have many more advanced features than the Epic Games Store; however, they spend too much effort and time trying to capture market share from Steam. Therefore, Sweeney determined from the outset that a truly bold strategy was needed, which led to the weekly free game giveaway and exclusive game sales. As a result, the Epic Games Store now holds 15% of the market share and continues to grow. Currently, the Epic Games Mega Sale 2020 is ongoing until June 11, featuring massive discounts on top games.
