Billionaire Elon Musk and his girlfriend Grimes have just renamed their son from “X Æ A-12” to “X Æ A-Xii”. It seems that the old name X Æ A-12 was still not complex enough for them.
Singer Grimes revealed this change on her Instagram page this past Sunday. When asked, “Did you change the baby’s name because of Californian law? What is the new name of the baby?” Grimes replied that the new name of their son is “X Æ A-Xii”, but no explanation was provided below.

When billionaire Elon Musk first announced the news about his newly born son on May 4, he chose the very special name X Æ A-12. Some people believe that the name on the birth certificate is invalid according to the naming regulations of the state of California.
A lawyer in California stated that the state regulations do not allow names containing special characters, numbers, or even Roman numerals. Hyphens or dashes may be permitted, but clearly, Elon Musk’s son’s name contains both special characters and numbers.
However, as previously explained, Æ is a letter in Latin, so it may be considered. And Musk’s change from A-12 to A-Xii, instead of A-XII, could be a loophole. Thus, in some respects, the new name X Æ A-Xii might be accepted.
The pronunciation will remain the same; Elon Musk has previously revealed the pronunciation of this unusual name. It can be pronounced in English as “Ex Ash A Twelve”. However, if some people don’t understand that Xii means 12, they might pronounce it as “Ex Ash A Ex Aye Eye”.
