Google is implementing a small but very useful change for Android devices. If you turn on Wi-Fi while in ‘Airplane’ mode, for the first time you will see a notification pop up saying, “Wi-Fi is turned on in Airplane mode. If you keep the Wi-Fi connection, it will automatically reconnect in the next instances of activating Airplane mode.”

If you click on this notification, you will be redirected to the support page titled “Keep Wireless Connection on Android Devices in Airplane Mode.”
Google states that when you first enable Airplane mode on your Android device, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections will be turned off. Previously, Google allowed users to turn Bluetooth back on while in Airplane mode to use wireless headphones or Bluetooth-enabled smartwatches.

Now, Google is providing a similar feature for Wi-Fi. If you are in Airplane mode and turn on Wi-Fi, your Android device will automatically save this setting and continue to keep the Wi-Fi connection active in the next activation of Airplane mode. Many airlines offer Wi-Fi connections on their flights, allowing this feature to help you access the internet while mobile signals are turned off.
According to Google’s support page, this change will apply to all Android devices. However, right now, Pixel smartphone users will receive the update and the earliest experience.
