Anyone who just bought a new PC or laptop this year, raise your hand! Surely, during this pandemic, those of you are the luckiest, as now you have plenty of time to fully enjoy your new “trophy.” This enjoyment time will inevitably come with those “bad habits” that every gamer seems to have when they just get their hands on a gaming PC or laptop. So, what are these “bad habits” that everyone has? Join me to find out more!

DON’T LET ANYONE TOUCH IT

It’s time to admit it, my fellow gamers. When you just got your precious new device, how could you let anyone touch it? I have a few younger cousins who often come over to play, and when I used my old laptop, I let them game as much as they wanted, but now that I have a high-end machine, forget it! Sometimes I feel a bit selfish, but hey, why should I let others use something that’s not worn out yet, right? Although eventually, everything will return to normal, I allow myself to be a little selfish in these first few days because it’s such a passionate time.

SPLURGING ON ACCESSORIES

For gamers, a laptop or PC is like a weapon they can use to “take down” high-quality games with extreme configurations. Therefore, for them, equipping accessories to make their weapon more powerful and efficient is a must. Whether it’s high-end cooling systems, protective cases, cable management boxes, cleaning tools, or top-tier gaming gear… in general, there are all sorts of things to help you “support” your machine to achieve the best performance and bring the utmost satisfaction and peace of mind, right? And for gamers, when it comes to investing, accessories must always be genuine and high-quality, so the costs can be quite staggering. Everyone knows that gamers spend a lot, but the most carefree time is probably when they have boundless motivation, like just getting a new machine.

OVERLY WORRIED

The temperature rises a bit, and you start to worry; the machine freezes for a moment, and you panic. Sometimes it’s just a software issue, but it’s enough to make gamers frantic. When buying a new machine, everyone hopes it will operate perfectly, but the reality of gaming and Windows today has many bugs, so occasional “slips” are unavoidable. Knowing this doesn’t ease the anxiety, as even a slight lag or a rise in temperature makes you shut down the game to cool it off. Not to mention, I use a laptop, so I carry it around carefully, treating it gently when I first bought it, but now I just toss it without a second glance because I know my machine is quite durable.

VIGILANTLY MONITORING PERFORMANCE

Right after I got my new device, I immediately installed MSI Afterburner and jumped into gaming to check the FPS and temperatures. I check every game, even light ones, just to see the FPS climb to xxx, and that’s satisfying. This can’t be denied; it’s like an invisible stimulant for gamers. Outsiders might not understand, but for gamers, it’s like checking a bank account; the balance must be high while the debt must be low, just like FPS must be high and temperatures must be low—that’s how it should be.

PRICE TAG SHOWING OFF

In this society, there is no right or wrong, only the rich and the poor, right? Just kidding, but anyone who plays PC or gaming laptops knows that whenever you touch these items, the prices just shoot up. The good thing is that expensive items are easily recognizable—they shine and sparkle, and everyone asks about the price. At this point, the humble gamer’s index is practically zero. Typically, when people ask about the price of a phone or headphones, it’s “Oh, it’s quite cheap,” but when it comes to a PC or laptop, it’s “This one costs tens of millions.” But what can we do? We save up and purchase it, and occasionally we just want to show off a little, right?

“DREAMING” ABOUT YOUR MACHINE

photo 5 15868761983321044905130

Many readers might think, “How could it get to this point?” Trust me, I’ve been there. Of course, it’s not to the extent of losing sleep or forgetting to eat, but more of being so obsessed that I can’t sleep at night, just watching my machine with its RGB lights glowing brightly in the room, and during the day, I continue with the “bad habits” I mentioned before, testing games all day, checking numbers non-stop, and sometimes even daydreaming about my machine when I’m not home, eagerly waiting for every minute to get back and play again. This cycle continues until I tire of it, and with PCs and laptops, the addiction can be quite high. My laptop has been used for over three years now, and even after cleaning it, I still enjoy admiring it for hours.

ACTIVATING FANBOY MODE

photo 6 15868761978511912193286

If you didn’t know, fanboy mode is when you become a fan of the brand of the machine you are using. For example, there’s Team Intel vs. Team AMD, and Asus fans vs. MSI fans. Although they are fierce rivals like Liverpool and Manchester United, in reality, their debates are quite civilized and knowledgeable. Since PC enthusiasts are generally tech-savvy and eager to learn, they have a wealth of knowledge. Whenever someone criticizes Intel or belittles Asus, they jump in to defend. But that’s a good thing; living life requires faith, just like Park Se Yeon in Itaewon Class, right?

FEAR OF PRICE DROPS

photo 7 1586876196926483780535

Just after selling my old machine to buy a new one, I’m already afraid of the price dropping. It’s understandable because tech products lose value each year, so the fear of depreciation is hard to avoid. Because of this fear, when I first get a new device, I’m very cautious in my usage, applying protective films and other things to avoid scratches. In reality, right after purchasing, everyone is so excited that they only think about using it, not about selling it, but deep down, we all know that one day it will have to go. While it’s reasonable, don’t worry too much; we buy things to use, not to sell. Depreciation is inevitable, so let’s just enjoy while we can.

INVITING FRIENDS TO PLAY GAMES

photo 8 15868761969801508496155

After just getting an awesome machine for gaming, of course, the desire to play games skyrockets, so it’s natural to want to invite friends to game together. It can be a bit troublesome, as everyone is busy studying and working, and I, just because I bought a new machine, am excited and temporarily set aside responsibilities to invite friends to game all day. And you know, playing games can be addictive; how can anyone refuse an invitation? So, from me, my friends also neglect their work. But hey, it’s okay; a little entertainment here and there makes work and study more effective, right?

NEW WITH OLD

photo 9 15868761970161374896600

While it’s obvious, it’s still a bit sad for the old items. When old machines are sold off, that’s one thing, but the gaming gear that we used to cherish also gets put aside. When buying a new machine, it’s only natural to invest in new accessories, fresh gear to feel satisfied, so old items must be sidelined. Sometimes, if you have a PS4 at home and then buy a PC or laptop, the PS4 ends up collecting dust for months—such is the life of a man.

Those were the “bad habits” that gamers often exhibit when they just acquire a laptop or PC. What do you all think? Is there anything in here that you do or don’t do? If you have anything to add, don’t hesitate to comment below so we can share with each other!
