The public’s knowledge of Satoshi Nakamoto is merely speculation

Satoshi Nakamoto is a fascinating mystery as he is the inventor of what is called a new technological revolution, or the emergence of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. We don’t know much about Satoshi, other than what this creator has shared with the public. Satoshi Nakamoto has made efforts to remain anonymous throughout the process of releasing the Bitcoin protocol white paper, launching the network, and even trading with others. And he continues to remain anonymous to this day.

Much of what the public knows about Satoshi to this day is still speculative. For example, on April 5th, it was claimed that the inventor of Bitcoin was 46 years old. But of course, that is only if that is Satoshi Nakamoto’s legal age.

One question that arises is how Satoshi managed to remain hidden during that early development period, and to this day, people still do not know why this inventor disappeared or if he may have died. If Satoshi is still alive, he would be one of the richest people in the world, as it is estimated that this inventor holds 1 million Bitcoins. Of course, the approximate number of Bitcoin this Satoshi holds is also a mystery, and we really do not know if he still has access to the wallets containing them.

It can be said that all we know for sure at this moment is that Satoshi is a unique mystery. Recently, the editor of Bitcoin Magazine, Pete Rizzo, published a comprehensive report on the last message supposedly sent by Satoshi on April 26, 2011. This was also the last sign he created in the eyes of the public.

According to the report, shortly after Satoshi delivered his final message in December 2010 and published Bitcoin version 0.3.19, he asked Gavin Andersen – who co-developed Bitcoin with him – whether he could refer to himself as a “technology leader” instead of a “mysterious shadow character.”

“The press only focuses on one aspect of pirate currency. Instead, it could be made about the open-source project and give more credit to your contributors; it helps promote them.

How did Satoshi Nakamoto remain anonymous?

The creator of Bitcoin used VPNs, Tor, anonymous domain registrations, and anonymous emails.

One of the biggest questions people often ask is: How could Satoshi Nakamoto remain so anonymous and discreet? In fact, he did a lot to keep his identity secret, such as not revealing his real name and identity, or choosing to use a Japanese surname and creating the common pseudonym “Satoshi Nakamoto.”

The inventor of Bitcoin also chose to collaborate and work with individuals who respect privacy and have a free-thinking mindset. In several posts on social media platforms like Reddit and bitcointalk.org, it is also suggested that Satoshi used a virtual private network (VPN) and even the open-source software Tor. Nakamoto had previously mentioned Tor, telling the public that it was a good way to obscure the origin of a Bitcoin transaction.

In a now archived Reddit post published seven years ago, a member explained how Satoshi registered domains anonymously. This individual claimed there might be a vulnerability in how Satoshi Nakamoto registered with hiddenspeech.com.

“At that point, Bitcoin did not exist, so he had to make bank transfers with Western Union, use Paypal, bank transfers, or send checks. So they could know who he is,” the now-deleted account had stated.

Aside from Tor and VPNs, it is also believed that Satoshi Nakamoto utilized several other ideas to conceal his identity. For example, free hosting companies, free webmail, and anonymous webmail.

“Some people, including myself, have looked at the timestamps on his Sourceforge commits as well as forum posts and emails to make guesses about his location. Nothing is really conclusive,” the comment from the deleted account seven years ago asserted. “Although his attempts at anonymity were not ‘bulletproof,’ they were extreme. He clearly had reasons to want to avoid detection.”

Why does Satoshi remain anonymous?

The reason why Satoshi Nakamoto chose to remain anonymous to this day is also speculative and unclear. Essentially, people believe it is for the safety of the inventor himself. Being the creator of a technology that could bypass the control of corporations, government manipulation, and operate outside the current monetary system has made Nakamoto extremely famous.

People have hunted for Nakamoto for a very long time, and some individuals have even repeatedly claimed to be the inventor of Bitcoin. Although none of them have succeeded in proving themselves to be Satoshi Nakamoto, some have tried very hard to do so.

So how has Satoshi Nakamoto remained anonymous over the years? Perhaps he was not only clever in designing the protocol but also smart enough to leverage its security capabilities to exist right under the public’s nose.

Satoshi Nakamoto has applied and implemented many tools that help keep his identity completely secret. But one thing makes people believe that after Satoshi said goodbye in mid-December 2010 and the email in April 2011, it is very likely that Nakamoto has passed away and that the anonymity was only due to his death that changed everything.

Some people speculate that Satoshi could be Hal Finney who passed away on August 28, 2014. Others believe he is the criminal Paul Le Roux, who is currently in prison and cannot communicate with the public in any way.

Whatever the truth may be, Satoshi deserves a lot of recognition for creating Bitcoin, and also for being able to remain anonymous for over 12 years without being discovered.
