One of the common jokes in tech groups is the idea of “downloading” more RAM. Whenever someone complains, “My PC is running too slow”, other members often advise, “Just download more RAM!” They then usually provide a link to the website DownloadMoreRAM.com, a site that humorously claims to let users download RAM for free over the Internet.

Of course, since it’s just a joke, DownloadMoreRAM.com cannot actually help make users’ PCs run smoother; they will have to spend money to upgrade their hardware if they want more RAM capacity.

However, recently, OPPO unveiled new technology that allows users to upgrade the RAM capacity of their smartphones through software. This technology is called “RAM+” and will be available on several smartphone models like the Reno5, A94, and A74.
So how does RAM+ work? According to OPPO’s description, RAM+ will convert a portion of the internal memory (ROM) into RAM. “With just a tap in the Settings app, users can add up to 7GB of RAM capacity.” This feature will be located in the About Device section. Users will select the amount of RAM they wish to expand, then restart the device to apply changes.

“Users will experience optimized performance thanks to the expanded RAM, which supports increased data processing capabilities, reduces frame drops and fragmentation. RAM+ makes switching between running applications smoother, maximizing the phone’s hardware capabilities. Additionally, OPPO offers three different RAM+ options, allowing users flexibility in adjusting RAM size according to their needs,” OPPO stated in their press release.
The RAM+ feature will be available on devices like the Reno5, A94, and A74 in upcoming updates. The Reno6, which OPPO is set to launch soon, is also expected to include this feature.
