Summer vacation is considered a time for children to recharge after the school year, a new opportunity to experience many new things.

However, the reality shows that many parents are understandably worried about their children facing the risk of “entertainment addiction and laziness in studying.” Not to mention, inappropriate entertainment methods. This has led many parents to apply the “ultimatum”: banning YouTube, limiting wifi, …
A common measure often seen is parents request their children: to only watch a maximum of 1-2 hours/day, only after completing their homework; Create a “black list” of useless entertainment channels; Monitor and supervise: requiring children to watch together with parents to evaluate content; Shift to learning and development: encourage watching science, English, and life skills channels…
Many YouTube channels that parents “dislike” are labeled as “not to watch” during summer break
Recently, a parent posted a list of channels with the caption: “Has any parent banned these channels on YouTube for summer break yet?” receiving much empathy from the online community. Among them are familiar streamer names: Mèo Simmy, Sammy Đào, Phong Cận TV, and Vê Vê TV… All of these channels have millions of followers.

For parents, Mèo Simmy, Sammy Đào and Phong Cận TV mainly focus on Minecraft, Mini World game content… with very few educational or practical skill elements. The content showcases their fun personalities, sometimes overly joking with a “noisy” presentation style, lacking educational value. Some opinions expressed frustration, stating:
“I also ban my child from watching these channels. Children learn from their ridiculous and rambling way of speaking and sometimes curse too. Why doesn’t YouTube have prohibitions like TikTok for swearing or fighting to ban their accounts?”;
“There will come a day to filter all of this out, moms. Just like filtering the counterfeit market. If these YouTubers continue, they will harm all children.”;
“Oh yes, totally channels my kid watches. I hate my kid watching them so much. Vê Vê and those Simmy kids are so annoying. Screaming is so unbearable. Every time I turn it on, I only let my kid watch for 5 minutes before switching channels. My kid loves watching it so much that I mute it and let them watch silently.”;

Sending an “ultimatum” is a completely understandable reaction: parents only wish for their children to take the initiative in studying and cultivate discipline. However, when this is presented without clear explanations, the negative choice – banning viewing can easily create negative psychological repercussions for children. The summer break can be a golden opportunity to understand, connect, and support children in their comprehensive development.
