The iOS 16.1 update supports iPhone models from iPhone 8 and above. This new version adds several features that were not available when iOS 16 was released in September.
After updating to iOS 16.1, users can create a shared library instead of just a single album as before, allowing up to 5 people. Shared members will have the ability to add, delete, edit, or mark their favorite photos and videos.

Notably, the feature is integrated into the Camera app, allowing users to choose whether to automatically send photos to the shared library.
With the iOS 16.1 update, the iPhone lock screen will display Live Activities, providing information about sports matches, rides from ride-sharing apps, and the status of food delivery orders…

However, this feature only works on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – the smartphone models equipped with Apple’s Always-On Display technology.
iPhone users who update to iOS 16.1 can subscribe to and access Apple Fitness+ even if they do not own an Apple Watch. However, without the Apple smartwatch, they cannot see metrics like calorie burn or heart rate in real-time.
Fitness+ is a health care service that includes exercise or meditation sessions with guidance at a price of $9.99/month and $79.99/year. Apple is running a promotion offering 3 months of Fitness+ for free with the purchase of new iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV products.
Matter is a new connectivity standard that makes it easier for users to operate any smart home accessory regardless of the manufacturer, as long as the product supports the Matter protocol.
With the iOS 16.1 update, Apple adds support for Matter protocol accessories on the home screen, allowing users to easily control their smart home.
