Recently, the engagement ceremony of bride N.D and groom T.P in Tay Ninh attracted significant attention from the online community. According to the groom’s family, the bride refused to participate in the ceremony because the groom’s side did not bring enough dowry of 3.3 gold bars and 50 million VND, which made the event incomplete.
It is known that the groom had promised the bride during the engagement that he would give her 3.3 gold bars and 50 million VND. However, when the ceremony took place, the groom’s family only brought dowry amounting to about half of what was promised, including: a pair of 1-carat 24K earrings, a 5-carat 24K necklace, 2 sets of 12-carat 18K bracelets, and 40 million VND.

According to the groom’s family, the groom’s parents passed away early, so only representatives like uncles and aunts from the family attended the ceremony. Despite the groom’s family offering advice and pleading due to the groom’s unfortunate circumstances, the bride remained adamant and refused to comply. This led to the postponement of the ceremony, and the groom’s family left so that the couple could discuss and resolve the matter privately.

The bride disagrees with the dowry brought by the groom’s family
After the story went viral on social media, many diverse opinions emerged regarding the topic of dowry in weddings. Many defended the groom due to his family circumstances, but there were also many expressing sympathy for the bride.
– “Once the decision for marriage is made, I think the bride and groom should discuss carefully to avoid unpleasant incidents on such an important day.”
– “It could be that the groom’s prior promise disappointed the bride, so she cannot be blamed.”
– “After all, the groom’s family isn’t very wealthy; if they decide to get married, they should be understanding of each other.”
