Recently, a video featuring a female student around 20 years old taking unexpected action by aggressively pulling the hair of some strange men in the elevator of an academy building in Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea has stirred public opinion. The footage appeared on the JTBC program Midday Event. The reason given was simply that she felt “eyed up”.

Specifically, when a man entered the elevator on the first basement floor, a strange woman suddenly grabbed his hair. The man looked bewildered at the woman but quickly exited the elevator along with his companion without receiving any apology from this female student.

Notably, this woman continued to perform a similar action with another man who entered the elevator afterward. Witnesses of the incident reported that the first man was very shocked by the girl’s actions. They also added that if the hair-puller had been a man, a physical confrontation might have occurred.

According to the account of a witness, this female student is around 20 years old and is a trainee at an academy in the building. After the two hair-pulling incidents occurred, one witness asked the girl about the reason for her strange actions. The answer the witness received was even more confusing: “Because he looked at me with an impolite gaze.”
The shocking video has gone viral on social media, quickly becoming the center of public debate. This incident has sparked a strong wave of controversy. Many people expressed outrage at the girl’s unprovoked violent behavior and deemed her reasoning unacceptable. They emphasized that even if feeling uncomfortable, resorting to violence is entirely wrong.
However, there are also opinions suggesting that the girl may have previously been a victim of gaze harassment and that this action was an instinctive self-defense response. Nevertheless, the majority still agree that violence is not a way to resolve issues.
Currently, authorities are continuing to investigate the matter, while public discussions about this controversial incident are ongoing.
