Recently, a short video circulating on social media has stirred outrage within the online community.
Posted on a popular video platform, the 3-minute and 37-second clip shocked viewers with its disturbing and unethical content. Notably, the video features a middle-aged male actor casually, and even excitedly, watching a young woman – only around her twenties – perform a seductive act of undressing. The young actress even provocatively says, “Let me feed you some grapefruit, okay?” The camera continuously zooms in on the actor’s face, which is perceived as gleeful.
The video attracted 5.8 million views within two days of posting. However, it was not well-received, facing a severe backlash from the online community.
“Unacceptable!” – The Outrage from the Online Community
Immediately after the video went viral, numerous personal accounts expressed their outrage:
“I don’t understand how someone could upload such content online. This is degradation!”;
“Disappointed. Social media has become a platform that condones cheap, unethical behaviors like this;”
“We are living in a society where morality seems to have no boundaries. Older individuals like the man in the clip are reduced to being a source of laughter”…
Many viewers also questioned whether the video producers deliberately staged this disturbing scene to gain views, disregarding ethical boundaries and societal norms.
Overflow of “Trash” Content
It cannot be denied that in recent years, the growth of short video platforms has made it easier for millions to access and create content. However, this ease has also led to a proliferation of unchecked, sensational, disturbing, and harmful content.
Videos like the aforementioned clip are gradually becoming a “trick” to attract views: using images of women dressed provocatively, combined with unusual contexts, or “creepy uncle” characters to create shocking and absurd effects.
Returning to the controversial video, many are questioning: Who is responsible? The producers? The actors? Or the platforms that failed to enforce strict censorship? Some opinions from the online community suggest that allowing such videos to trend indicates a lack of control and a loosening of content regulations.
Concerning Cultural and Ethical Consequences
Not only shocking, the video raises deeper issues regarding how society perceives the roles and images of the elderly as well as the youth.
The scene of the middle-aged uncle “glued” to the body of a young girl is seen as promoting harassment behavior, creating a distorted impression that “older men are naturally attracted to young girls,” which can be made into a joke. This not only offends women’s dignity but also harms the image of the elderly, who deserve respect in Eastern society.
For the youth – especially girls – agreeing to participate in such videos also reflects an alarming decline in self-worth awareness. Behind the million-view video, a bit of “virtual fame” comes at a high price of dignity and loss of respect from the community.
The story of this disturbing video is just a small example among thousands of similar content floating online. This incident serves as a wake-up call about the societal responsibility to shape a healthy online space. We cannot allow disturbing, inhumane videos to infiltrate every phone and every young user’s account.
We cannot demand social media to be healthy if each user does not equip themselves with a moral filter. And we cannot allow the next generation to grow up in a media environment full of toxic waste, devoid of proper role models.
