On the afternoon of December 4th, Chinese media along with the online community were shocked by the news that author Quỳnh Dao – the “mother” of My Fair Princess passed away at the age of 86.
According to several Taiwanese media outlets, author Quỳnh Dao was believed to have taken her own life at her home at 1 PM today (December 4th). A representative from the ambulance team stated that when they arrived at the scene, Quỳnh Dao had stopped breathing and had no pulse.

Author Quỳnh Dao was born in 1938 in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Quỳnh Dao is known as one of the famous writers with many romantic novels. In addition, she is also the “mother” of many classic television works such as: My Fair Princess, New River of Sorrow…
In 1959, at the age of 21, Quỳnh Dao got married and had one son. Her marriage ended five years later. In 1979, she married for the second time to Bình Hâm Đào, who was the editor-in-chief of the “Hoàng Quán” magazine.
