From a former gymnastics athlete to the most sought-after female streamer overnight.
The 30-year-old Lưu Phương was a well-known gymnastics athlete in China. She was a six-time national champion and a six-time World Cup champion in this sport. In the past, Lưu Phương was affectionately referred to by the media as the “princess of the balance beam” in gymnastics. Unfortunately, due to an injury in 2012, she had to retire in 2013. From there, she was arranged to study at Peking University and later became a teacher at the institution.

Since the beginning of 2024, she signed a contract with a live streaming company and became a streamer. Her account frequently posts short videos showcasing her sensual dance performances. With her attractive looks, endearing face, and alluring figure, Lưu Phương has garnered many followers across various social media platforms.

Things would have remained calm if the female streamer hadn’t engaged in a recent verbal clash.
Specifically, a former colleague left a comment on the female streamer’s video expressing dissatisfaction with Lưu Phương’s activities, claiming they brought negative images to gymnastics. Responding to the comment, the female streamer retorted: “Those who can’t eat grapes say they are sour.”
The two then exchanged comments, escalating the tension, and the public also chimed in with mixed reactions, questioning, “Are these bold sensual dances suitable for a former national athlete?” Having represented the country, even after retirement, she still cannot shake off the label of a gymnastics athlete. Others argued that beautiful girls do not steal or rob. Although she has become famous on social media, she still earns money through her own efforts.

Lưu Phương subsequently went live to clarify the controversies. The female streamer revealed that she loved dancing while in school, and her family supported her choice to become a streamer. She apologized to her fans simply because, “My argument wasted everyone’s time. I am sorry for this.”

In just over two hours, the live stream attracted over 760,000 viewers and received 1.3 million likes. Some said she truly PR herself successfully after the controversy. Her fan count skyrocketed from 50,000 to over a million overnight.
