A man named Jerry Hicks, living in Banner Elk, North Carolina, USA, has decided to retire after 56 years as a carpenter, despite never having planned to do so.
This change came after he unexpectedly won a lottery ticket worth 1 million dollars (approximately 25 billion VND).

Jerry shared that one morning, while at a convenience store to buy food, he unexpectedly found 20 dollars in the parking lot. Upon entering the store, he happily planned to buy a lottery ticket. However, the shop only had the Extreme Cash ticket left. Though it wasn’t what he originally intended, Jerry still cheerfully purchased this type of ticket.
Incredible luck came to the man.
That night, upon checking the results, Jerry discovered he had won the jackpot of 1 million dollars. According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, the odds of winning the 1 million prize are 1 in 2,017,650. The prize has two options for claiming. One is to receive 50,000 dollars annually for 20 years. The other is a lump sum of 600,000 dollars. He chose the lump sum and received 429,007 dollars (approximately 11 billion VND) after taxes.

After claiming his prize, Jerry mentioned he would go to his favorite buffet restaurant and eat all the dishes they have. He further shared that he would allocate some of his winnings to help a children’s charity. The remaining amount would be divided among his children and for his retirement.
