Online romances are becoming increasingly common, and the corresponding rate of unbelievable endings, often negative, is also on the rise. Most of the time, these are young men playing the victim, while women have countless ways to ensnare them. From making the most of photo-editing software, using fake photos, to refusing video calls or meeting face-to-face, these are all too familiar scenarios. Despite knowing this, many young men still fall into the trap, and the heartbreaking story below is an example.
Specifically, yesterday, the police in Thaiyi District, Suzhou, China, received a report about an online fraud case, stemming from blind romances. A young man, perhaps still inexperienced or going through a single phase, poured all his love and affection into his “online girlfriend.” Not just simple love, but he was so infatuated that he lavished her with money, spending and gifting her expensive items. It is known that the two met through a game, then connected via WeChat, and their close relationship developed into love.

Feeling a connection during their conversations, the young man (surname Lý) became increasingly enamored with the girl (surname Chương), to the point of transferring 7,000 RMB (approximately 23 million VND) to Chương to buy cosmetics and clothes, believing she was very pure and gentle.
But then, on a beautiful day, Chương unexpectedly received a call from a strange number. The man claimed to be Chương’s husband and revealed that they had a child together, then sent Lý a “real-life” photo of Chương. It seemed like his world collapsed, and only then did he realize he had been deceived all along. It is known that during their conversations, the girl actively sent photos to the young man. And although she wasn’t particularly beautiful, no one would think she was already a mother. The two photos were accurate, and it could be confirmed that they were two different people. Thus, by the time the young man discovered he had been tricked, it was too late.

But at least better late than never, because afterward, perhaps out of frustration, Lý reported the case to the police, and the authorities quickly arrested the suspect on charges of fraud and misappropriation of property. At the police station, Chương admitted she used the nickname Tư Di and employed images of young and beautiful girls online to chat with Lý, as well as not denying that she had a husband and child. Another typical ending for “virtual” romances with girls met through games or online. Well, it’s a lesson for Lý and other young men in the future, not to be too gullible and lose both money and love.
