A Father Makes His Son “Face the Music” After Overspending on a Game…
Recently, a “laughable yet absurd” incident has been causing a stir among netizens in China. According to reports, a man named Da Li, living in Guangzhou, has filed a lawsuit against a game publisher, demanding a refund of over 21,000 yuan (nearly 100 million VND) which he claims was accidentally spent by his “2-year-old son” without the guardian’s consent.

In the lawsuit, Da Li claimed that his son – a boy named Xiao Li, had been using his father’s phone to top up the account for the game over a span of 7 months, starting from when the boy was just 2 years and 11 months old until he was nearly 4. He argued that the act of spending money was illegal as it was conducted by a minor, demanding the game publisher to refund the entire amount that was “accidentally” spent.
However, after conducting an investigation and trial, the court discovered several irregularities and contradictions in the father’s testimony.
Blaming His Son Only to Face a Bitter Outcome
According to the court’s conclusion, data recorded from the game account showed that login activities primarily occurred around midnight to early morning. This is a suspicious time, as it is unlikely for a 2-year-old to “accidentally” engage in such activities. Moreover, in the game’s chat section, this account frequently used phrases that indicated it was operated by an adult.
Furthermore, the transaction history of the payment account also indicated several scans at internet cafes. This further proves that the player was indeed an adult, and could not have been a 2-3 year old child. Based on the collected evidence, the Guangzhou Internet Court concluded that it was actually the father Da Li who had spent money on the game, and he deliberately tried to “pass the buck to his son” to evade financial responsibility and exploit the minor consumer protection mechanism to reclaim the money.

With this deceitful act, the court affirmed that Mr. Da Li had intentionally filed a false lawsuit, subsequently issuing a ruling to impose a 10,000 yuan (nearly 40 million VND) administrative fine for the wrongful lawsuit. All requests for a refund were completely dismissed.
In fact, it is not uncommon for children to “accidentally” spend money on games, leading to troubles for many parents. However, the act of adults intentionally blaming small children to rectify financial consequences they themselves caused is not only morally wrong but also against the law.
