The Community is in Heated Debate: Backdooring in ARURF is Called Cowardly, But If You’re Not Playing to Win, What’s the Point?

The controversies surrounding winning strategies in ARURF mode are causing a significant divide in the League of Legends community.

With the breaking of all power limits of champions, ARURF is one of the most beloved game modes in League of Legends. However, “entertainment” can sometimes bring about many complex issues, and for ARURF, the age-old debate that keeps gamers arguing is still: “Are we playing games for fun or just to destroy the enemy’s base?”

Just a few days after ARURF officially landed on the Vietnamese server, there were many gamers’ opinions responding to their opponents focusing solely on pushing the base, even sneaking in for a backdoor to achieve victory.

Many opinions suggest that ARURF was created to entertain through skill spamming and skill competition, and the backdooring of the opponent is an act of winning at all costs, detracting from the entertainment value of this mode. Some players even used relatively harsh language to express their views on this issue, asserting that “playing URF and focusing on pushing towers is a cowardly act.”

However, these opinions immediately faced a lot of opposition. A large number of gamers found it “strange” when League of Legends is a game about destroying bases, and almost in every game mode (except Teamfight Tactics) at present, the goal of victory is still to destroy the enemy’s Nexus.

Yet, many people call the act of destroying towers or backdooring “cowardly,” which is truly incomprehensible. These gamers also argue that playing ARURF is for fun, but isn’t the joy truly complete only if victory is achieved? Pushing towers to win brings joy to all five members of the winning team, while the losing side should accept defeat for not being able to control the situation, rather than losing and then going on Facebook to accuse others of being cowardly.

When it comes to the joy of playing games, for many gamers, it is the solo skill match, the feeling of outplaying the opponent. But for many others, their joy simply lies in the thrill of victory, those heart-pounding “comebacks”. And because everyone has different perspectives, imposing how others should play the game “this way or that way” is indeed a hard argument to agree on.

What about you? In your personal opinion, do you think pushing towers or even backdooring to win in ARURF is acceptable? Feel free to share your thoughts!
