Fighting and defeating impressive and powerful monsters in games always brings an unusual thrill. However, that’s only true for those that are well-crafted inside and out. There are also monsters that look grand but in the game, they’re nothing more than a punching bag for newbies to practice their combos.
Here are 10 prime examples of such monsters.
10. The Hunters – Dead Space 3
The Hunter is a very tough, terrifying, aggressive monster that is very hard to kill. It is one of the elements that made the Dead Space series captivating. However, by the third installment, this monster completely disappoints.

While in previous installments, The Hunter was a nightmare, now it is just another ordinary enemy to kill. The new gameplay mechanics have made this iconic monster lose its terrifying edge. This is unfortunate, especially for a great series like Dead Space.
9. Shuggurath – Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
Most monsters in the Pre-Sequel are typical types found in the Borderlands series, like toxic-spitting insects, melee fighters that look like animals, and some humanoid types equipped with guns. However, Shuggurath is different; it has a rather peculiar shape, resembling flying octopuses. People had hoped it would do something cool, but in reality, it did not.

These flying punching bags can hardly attack accurately unless you get right in their faces for them to hit you. With a sniper rifle, you can easily poke them to death from a distance without even needing to dodge. Even up close, their damage output is not that frightening. The small monsters they spawn are as weak as chickens in Counter-Strike. Overall, they’re both useless and lack any intimidation factor.
8. Tomb Guardian – Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order
This might be the most impressive monster on this list. It stands out with overwhelming power and can easily “psychologically dominate” new players with its devastating attacks and strong healing abilities.

However, that’s only true for new players. After encountering this monster a few times, you’ll easily figure out its patterns. Its attacks are very predictable, and you don’t need to overthink your moves; just dodge and then rush in for a few hits, repeating until its health is depleted. You can even shove a Force Push down its throat to end a combo and then pile on the damage. With a bit of practice, you can take this monster down in about a minute.
7. Suicider – Dead Island/Dead Island: Riptide
The Suicider is a type of suicide attacker that approaches you and self-explodes, causing significant damage. The game advises you to keep your distance from them to avoid getting hit.

It sounds dangerous, but in reality, this monster is very useless or even completely harmless if you know how to play. They are slow, easily identifiable, and explode quite “stupidly.” They will roar and then explode two seconds later. Two seconds isn’t a long time, but it’s enough for you to react and escape. You don’t even need to waste ammo on this one; you can kick it once and run away before it explodes, or even just walk away; it won’t catch up to you.
6. Enforcer – Batman: Arkham Origins
Aggressive, muscular, and extremely tough, that’s what you can expect from the Enforcer. This character can be considered a mini-boss that is quite annoying in Batman: Arkham Origins.

However, there’s a little trick to easily get past this brute: you can use cape-stun to disable the Enforcer before he gets a chance to attack. Just whip your cape over his head to stun him, then punch him, and repeat this process for about 20 seconds until he’s down for the count.
5. Revenant – Resident Evil: Revelations 2
A twisted, decaying corpse that has sharp metal spikes protruding from it. The Revenant is one of the most unique and terrifying monsters in the game. It even has the ability to regenerate, increasing its menace. However, it has a “Achilles’ heel” as well.

You can sneak up behind it using the character Barry and take it down in one hit without missing. To speed things up, you can bring the girl Natalia to point out its weak spots and mark them in bright orange. Just a bit of skill, and you’ll find that taking down this creature is actually very easy.
4. Dragons – Skyrim
One of the most advertised features of Skyrim is its epic battles with dragons. However, contrary to that promise, the dragons in Skyrim are quite underwhelming.

In the first battle you have with a dragon, you might find yourself wondering why it is so weak. It can barely scratch you. Sure, it takes some time to kill it, but throughout the fight, it feels like a punching bag for you to shoot arrows and cast spells at. They may be big and look cool, but they are so lackluster that it can be disappointing. Even Alduin, the dragon prophesied to consume the world, is relatively easy to kill, leaving players feeling let down.
Perhaps Bethesda Game Studios should learn from From Software about how to create a “real” dragon. Just look at the horrifying beast Midir in Dark Souls 3 to see what a dragon should be like.
3. Colossal Ruin – Alice: Madness Returns
Colossal Ruin is a monster with a grotesque appearance, a mishmash of features, and the ability to breathe fire, producing horrifying sounds. Its design is perfect for a horror piece. However, this very appearance makes it less effective.

With such a horrifying exterior, players tend to avoid it as much as possible. However, its powerful attacks can only be unleashed when it is close enough to you. Meanwhile, its long-range attacks are very easy to dodge. With ranged weapons like the Pepper Grinder (similar to a Gatling gun) or the Teapot (similar to a grenade launcher), you can kite Colossal Ruin to death quite easily.
2. Berserker – XCOM: Enemy Unknown
The Berserker is a massive monster with a lot of health and the ability to deal wide-area damage. New players often dread facing it. However, for somewhat experienced players, it is just a tool for them to farm points.

Since XCOM is a turn-based strategy game, and the Berserker is programmed to attack anyone who shoots it, all you need to do is spread your team out and have each unit shoot it in turn. Just repeat this process until it dies. Despite its size and toughness, it is quite ineffective, and dealing with it feels like kicking a soccer ball.
While it can’t be said to be harmless, at least it’s very easy to deal with.
1. Great Ape – Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
When it comes to Dragon Ball, Oozaru or Great Ape is a legend, incredibly powerful. However, in the game, it is not quite like that.

Similar to many other monsters on this list, the main issue with the Great Ape is its mobility. While everyone else can fly around, these big monkeys can only walk on the ground and are completely helpless at catching players, and their long-range attacks are also predictable and easy to dodge. Your job at this point is to rain down long-range attacks on the Great Ape. Even when both appear at the same time, dealing with them is not difficult at all.
Perhaps Dimps Corporation should also learn from From Software. If the Great Ape were even half as capable as the Guardian Ape from Sekiro, it wouldn’t find itself on this list.
