YouTube has just announced that videos will have their default resolution lowered starting next month, affecting all users worldwide. Last week, YouTube stated that it would reduce video quality for users in Europe to help prevent bandwidth overload as many people have to stay at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The new announcement applies to all users around the world, meaning that users in Vietnam will also be affected.

By default, YouTube videos will only play at a resolution of 480p. If you want to watch videos in higher resolution, you will have to manually adjust the settings. Of course, this will cause a bit of inconvenience for users, but it is not too serious.
Not only YouTube, but other tech companies like Netflix, Amazon, and Apple are also reducing the quality of their streaming services. However, most of these changes only apply in Europe, where the Covid-19 pandemic is currently surging.

As more people study and work from home, concerns about internet bandwidth overload will continue to rise. Therefore, reducing the quality of streaming services and online videos will be necessary.
A representative from YouTube stated: “We are working closely with governments and internet service providers globally to help reduce the strain on the internet system during this unprecedented situation”.
