Mandatory quarantine is an obligation and responsibility that you must fulfill if you have traveled through an epidemic area or had close contact with infected/suspected individuals. Many international students have seriously complied with this 14-day period with an incredibly positive attitude. Many have called on friends and expatriates to voluntarily cover living expenses during the 14 days; donate essential goods or simply share lovely and optimistic stories.
Recently, a female international student from Taiwan has caused a stir on social media with her cleaning efforts in the quarantine dormitory. Instead of complaining, Nguyen Thi Diem Chau jumped right in to tidy up, transforming the quarantine area into a very clean and comfortable place. Not only that, she also left some snacks for those who would be moving in for quarantine next.
When first moving into the quarantine area, everything was quite messy, so the group of friends was determined to jump right in and clean up.
Sweeping the floor, cleaning the bathroom, decorating the living space… to make the quarantine area the most comfortable place possible.

Sharing about her super cute actions, Diem Chau said: “At first, we were a bit disheartened to realize that this was the boys’ room, so it wasn’t as tidy as the others. But I thought simply, if the room isn’t neat, just dive in and clean it up. Every day, we sweep and wipe down twice in the afternoon and evening. Since everyone is comfortable, cleaning goes extremely quickly.”
Right after returning home, Diem Chau and her friends immediately completed the 14-day quarantine procedure as required by the Ministry of Health. She mentioned that the quarantine time was very comfortable due to the enthusiastic attention from the staff and volunteer students. “Our room is very comfortable, meals are on time. Every day, we have our temperature checked twice and are provided with masks.”
When asked about international students in quarantine having a negative attitude, Diem Chau expressed: “After the quarantine period, I found that the staff here were very enthusiastic in helping those in quarantine. So I hope those international students will soon change their attitude. And I also want everyone to look at the positive side and not think that all international students are like that!”
The group of friends shared cleaning duties twice a day. The result was an extremely clean and tidy quarantine room.
The post has received numerous supportive comments from the online community. Everyone agrees with the viewpoint of the group of young friends who worked hard to improve their living conditions. Some rooms may not be tidy because many students moved their belongings in a hurry. But instead of criticizing, let’s try to clean up the living space to make these quarantine days memorable!
“Due to the process of moving, the room is a bit dirty, but the dormitory is still home to many students. Thank you and wish you a quick recovery!” commented user H.T.
“The owner of this room is lucky, having someone tidy it up who is a girl, so it should be very clean!” commented user T.N.
