As many people know, regular phone use can lead to lasting eye problems. Recently in China, a 20-year-old girl lost her sight permanently due to corneal detachment from prolonged mobile phone use. Of course, not everyone will suffer such misfortune and hardship as this girl, but continuous smartphone use can cause users’ eyes to feel fatigued.

Recently in Japan, a doctor issued a warning that excessive smartphone use can lead to farsightedness in young people. Farsightedness is typically seen in older adults. However, according to this doctor, modern young people often stare at small objects at close range, like smartphones, for long periods each day, causing many to experience symptoms similar to those of older adults with farsightedness.

A program in Japan explored this issue, and the producers used a banknote to test invited participants for symptoms of farsightedness due to smartphone use. The MBS television program in Japan discussed the issue of farsightedness caused by mobile phone use, describing that the most common symptom is difficulty focusing on objects.

The program invited an ophthalmology expert, Dr. Hiramatsu. He showed everyone how to determine if they have farsightedness due to smartphone use.
First, you need a banknote.

Place the banknote where you can see it comfortably.

Focus on the small characters printed on the banknote.

Then look at a clock or something at a distance of 2 to 3 meters for 5 seconds.

After that, immediately look back at the small characters on the banknote. Can you focus within 1 second? As long as you’ve completed these three short steps, everything will be clear in an instant if something is wrong with your eyes…

A normal person’s eyes can focus within one second.
Over 1 second, there is a risk of farsightedness due to smartphone use.
Over 3 seconds is severe farsightedness.

Many people took up to 13.94 seconds to look back at the text, which is when your eyes show signs of severe farsightedness.

The program also asked pedestrians aged 20 to 30 to take this test and found that many people’s eye problems were indeed serious… Those aged 21 used their mobile phones for more than 7 hours each day.

This girl took 3.16 seconds to see the text.

Out of a total of 31 surveyed pedestrians, more than half were at risk, and 16 people suffered from smartphone-related farsightedness. This is clearly a concerning warning, especially for the youth, who have a very high intensity of mobile phone use today. Therefore, let’s learn to use smartphones moderately.
