Valorant: After 5 Ranked Matches, Shroud Reaches Diamond 3, Community Confused, Suggesting Possible Favoritism

Many others also finished 5 ranked matches with a 3-2 score like Shroud, but couldn't reach the rank he did.

Since its beta release a month ago, Valorant has truly created a fresh wave in the FPS game genre and garnered attention from not only gamers but also famous streamers worldwide. Naturally, Shroud – dubbed the king of FPS games – is no exception. Everything became even more noteworthy when recently, after Riot Games announced the launch of the ranked mode, Shroud quickly updated his rank for fans after finishing his match series.

Based on what this streamer shared, after finishing a series of 5 ranked matches with a 3 wins and 2 losses result, Shroud ultimately “docked” at Diamond 3 rank – a level that is likely a dream for many, yet it seems that it still doesn’t fully satisfy him.

However, Shroud’s announcement surprisingly sparked discussions and debates among some Valorant players. They questioned whether there might be any slight favoritism or unfairness from Riot Games, as many players with similar scores ended up at “Iron” rank, while some even won all 5 games in the ranked series and still only reached Platinum.

Isn't it confusing? I won 5-0 and ended up at Platinum

Don't complain, I also won 5-0 and I'm now Bronze 3

However, explaining these doubts is not difficult, and there is definitely no favoritism from Riot Games towards Shroud. First of all, Valorant is divided into 8 ranks, quite similar to League of Legends, including Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Immortal, and the highest rank is Valorant. Each rank is also divided into 3 tiers.

In determining rank in matches, the system does not just rely on the results but also considers the player’s performance in the games. A good K/D/A, high contributions, and elo points will increase, and vice versa. In fact, if you lose too quickly due to negligence, the point deduction can be quite significant, while if you fight hard even when losing, the point deduction is limited. This is seen as Riot Games’ way of encouraging players to reduce the issues of AFK and throwing games…

Ranking Shroud at Diamond 3 is correct; otherwise, he would drop down and waste time and trouble for other players

At this point, we understand that although Shroud only won 3 and lost 2, his kills and contributions in the matches were immense. With what he has shown, the system’s determination to rank him at Diamond 3 is indeed justified. It’s best to keep it this way; ranking Shroud lower would only cause trouble for those who have to compete against him.
