Although still in the testing and development phase, Valorant has truly made a positive impact on the global FPS gaming community. However, alongside the excitement of the game’s novelty and intrigue, there remains a haunting specter that plagues all FPS titles, and Valorant is no exception: the issue of hacks and cheats. Despite Riot’s strong stance against cheating, evidenced by the launch of the Vanguard anti-cheat system developed in-house, this remains a pressing issue that Valorant players face.

However, in a recent speech by Paul “Arkem” Chamberlain, the head of Riot Games’ anti-cheat division, he revealed some aspects of the anti-hack strategies currently being implemented in Valorant. He candidly acknowledged that hacks and cheats still exist, but Arkem quickly reassured fans by providing examples of highly proactive prevention methods.
“Indeed, hacks and cheats are still present in Valorant, even appearing quite frequently and ruining the gaming experience for genuine players. However, we have many proactive strategies in place to ensure that hacking software cannot develop and proliferate in the future. For instance, if the price of hacking software is inflated, very few people will be able to access it and become cheaters. The fewer hackers there are, the easier it is for us to control them and gradually push them out of the Valorant ecosystem.”

Logically, this strategy is quite feasible. However, Arkem seems to have overlooked scenarios where cheating players are determined to spend money on hacks and then share and propagate them. This strategy also appears to be merely addressing the symptoms rather than tackling the root cause, and it certainly cannot completely resolve the hacking issues that are plaguing Valorant.
It is well-known that hacks and cheats have long been an invisible specter, a pressing issue that looms over all players of FPS games. If Riot Games does not truly implement effective countermeasures, then no matter how exciting and enjoyable Valorant is, it will easily be ruined by hacks and cheats. The time leading up to the official release of this game is still ongoing, and it will be an opportunity for Riot Games to further refine their prized creation.
