Google is developing a data-sharing feature for nearby devices, very similar to AirDrop on iOS. This new feature is called Recent Share (also referred to by Google as Nearby Sharing) and allows direct sharing of photos, website links, and many other data files between two devices.

However, Google will upgrade this feature to be much more powerful than Apple’s AirDrop. It will not only support Android smartphones and tablets but will also enable data sharing between many other devices, including Windows PCs, Macs, and Chromebooks.

XDA Developers discovered that this Recent Share feature will not only be released through the Google Play Store but will also support Chromebooks and all types of computers that can install the Chrome browser.
A video revealed earlier this year shows how the Recent Share feature works. This feature can also be quickly activated from the quick settings menu on Android.
