Pho is a traditional dish from Vietnam, believed to have originated from Nam Dinh. This dish has become very familiar to all Vietnamese people, often chosen for meals at any time of the day.
The main ingredients of pho are rice noodles and broth (or “nuoc leo” as called in the South), along with thinly sliced beef or chicken. It is also accompanied by condiments such as soy sauce, pepper, lime, fish sauce, and chili, which can be added according to individual preferences.
Not only is pho a popular and affordable dish, but it has also left a strong impression on many tourists who have the chance to travel and enjoy Vietnamese cuisine. To date, this dish has been introduced internationally by Vietnamese people and is present in many countries around the world.

Because of this fame, many people have noticed the contradiction in a TikTok account’s video, where the person claimed to be making pho but completely got the recipe wrong.
The young chef has millions of followers and over 100 million likes on social media with videos featuring unique dishes from various countries, or guides on cutting fruits in a hotel style.
How this young man created a “quirky” dish.
Recently, this young man’s video making pho surprised many when he took noodles and poured a dark brown broth into a bowl, topped with a piece of rib and a few hastily sliced onions. In the video description, the young chef even wrote, “I’m the Pho King…” The video has garnered over 3 million views and over 7,500 comments since its posting.
Among them, many accounts from both foreigners and Vietnamese commented that the video completely misrepresented the recipe for creating a bowl of Vietnamese pho.

To make a proper bowl of pho from Vietnam, the broth for pho is usually a clear broth made from simmering beef bones, along with various spices including cinnamon, star anise, roasted ginger, cardamom, dried squid, cloves, coriander seeds, and roasted shallots.
The meat used for pho is beef (with various cuts like brisket, flank, and shank that can be either rare or well done) or chicken (free-range boiled chicken, shredded for rich flavor). Traditionally, “pho noodles” are made from rice flour, rolled into thin sheets and then cut into strands.
