After these photos went viral on Twitter, many news outlets and scientific magazines jumped in to investigate what kind of fish this is. Among them, VICE noted that it belongs to the family of spiny pufferfish – with around 40 different species worldwide. True to its name, this fish is quite aggressive, with a strong jaw capable of tearing apart sea urchins or puncturing human diving gear.

Spiny pufferfish are not the only marine creatures endowed with plump lips and human-like white teeth. For instance, the sheephead fish below has a jaw that could almost be “copy-pasted” from ours, if you don’t look too closely. It may seem a bit scary, but this unique dental structure allows sheephead fish to easily crush their food, mainly shrimp, crabs, or clams. They typically inhabit coastal waters in the United States.
The Pacu fish, found in South America, is considered a relative of the piranha but is quite gentle and mostly feeds on vegetation. However, its super strong jaw is capable of crushing hard-shelled nuts with just one bite.
