Closing out a decade, 2020 can be considered one of the most eventful years in the Vietnamese gaming/streamer community.
Sofm – The First Vietnamese to Appear in the League of Legends World Championship Finals
One of the most impressive highlights of the Vietnamese eSports scene in 2020 was undoubtedly the miraculous journey of Sofm – who was once considered a prodigy and the darling of League of Legends in Vietnam. Overcoming numerous difficulties to reach the World Championship for the first time, Sofm broke through his own limits, dispelling all doubts about his long-standing curse with the world’s largest League of Legends tournament.

However, this miraculous journey even surprised many. It was because of his individual brilliance that Sofm and his teammates at Suning won straight through to the finals before sadly stopping at the threshold of heaven against a formidable opponent, Damwon Gaming. Nevertheless, the fact that he became the first Vietnamese to pass the group stage and even advance to the final match of the World Championship has marked a milestone for Vietnamese League of Legends in particular and Vietnamese eSports in general.
The Grand Wedding of Xemesis
While there weren’t many highlights in his professional work in 2020, Xemesis marked a significant milestone in his life by officially leaving bachelorhood and marrying his bride, Xoài Non, in a grandiose wedding that was literally huge. In fact, he even made the online community and fans wait for nearly a year, as at the end of the previous year, this couple had already been engaged and held a betrothal ceremony.

The numbers regarding Xemesis’s wedding likely left many astonished, as the total cost was around 2.1 billion VND, with just the cost of alcohol contributing around 300-400 million VND. Initially, he even intended to livestream his joyous day to over 200 countries around the world.
The Music Video “Stream Until When” by Độ Mixi
Known as one of the top names in the Vietnamese streamer community, Độ Mixi made a resounding mark in 2020 with the release of the highly invested and spontaneous music video “Stream Until When,” which was even considered on par with professional productions. Within just a few hours, this MV climbed straight to the top of the trending charts on YouTube. It was also a meaningful gift for his 32nd birthday.

Additionally, we cannot overlook Độ Mixi’s outstanding rap performance at the 2 minutes and 13 seconds mark of the MV that left the audience in awe. Truly, although he is over 30, Độ Mixi still keeps up with the trends of the youth and remains one of the most famous names in the Vietnamese streamer community today.
The success of the aforementioned personalities, especially Sofm, has been strongly recognized by the online community, as evidenced by his nomination for the streamer/gamer of the year category at the WeChoice Awards 2020.
