Surviving in the wilderness is quite a terrifying thing. However, in games, survival places players in incredibly challenging and interesting situations. When forced to do everything to survive, gamers will realize that survival is an art in itself.
In Part 1, we explored 5 of the best survival games on Steam. Now let’s continue!
The Forest
As one of the best-selling horror games on Steam, The Forest features a complex storyline with many implications that players will gradually understand. The game begins with a scene where you and your son are traveling when suddenly the plane crashes on a small island. You witness your son being taken away by a mysterious man in The Forest.
From there, you must survive and follow the clues to find your son. You will encounter wild animals, a mysterious cannibal tribe, and a force conducting horrifying experiments. You will have to struggle not to starve while building fortifications to defend against enemy attacks. The storyline is the strength of The Forest, and once you finish playing, remember to check online for theories; it’s very interesting.

It may sound scary, but there’s a lot to do in this game. From hunting animals for meat to building and “crafting” everything… The character’s interaction with the environment is also very good; every tree in the forest can be chopped down rather than being just dead details. Although The Forest is categorized as a horror game, if you have a group of friends playing together, it is sure to be incredibly fun.
Rust
This is also a popular survival game on Steam due to its realistic and novel gameplay. It combines elements from three famous games: Dayz, Arma 2, and Minecraft’s crafting mode. Rust has created a harmonious blend of these three legendary titles.
Your main task in Rust is to survive in the wilderness using gathered resources or… stealing. PC Gamer described this game as follows: “Rust is one of the most brutal games on Steam, and that’s what makes it interesting”. Indeed, this is definitely a game that survival game enthusiasts must try.
In Rust, you will have many activities to do and many things to experiment with: from crafting items, building structures, hunting wild animals to collaborating and forming alliances with other players… Everything you do is for a single purpose – survival. Honestly, it sounds serious, but this game is extremely fun. Just try it, it’s a riot.

Survival games that emphasize realism like Rust are always favored by many players. Because it’s not just about living and building as in many other games. In Rust, you also have to manage hunger, thirst, and even cold every night in the forest. Besides, to survive, you can also steal from other players. If you don’t want to steal, you can engage in combat; whoever wins eliminates the other.
ARK: SURVIVAL EVOLVED
The name ARK is already well-known in the gaming community. This survival game is set in a prehistoric world with giant dinosaurs accurately modeled by species. Of course, survival requires many elements: combat, building, crafting, and hunting. ARK offers a unique hunting experience where you not only hunt wild animals but also dinosaurs. Gather your friends, equip weapons, ride your dinosaur, and venture into the jungle to hunt down giant T-Rexes.
Although the game does not focus on realistic hunting mechanics, ARK still provides a challenging and thrilling experience each time you encounter dangerous dinosaurs. The satisfaction and excitement of collecting loot after each hunting trip with your friends will surely make you love ARK more.

At first glance, you might think this is just a game themed around dinosaurs. However, once you play and experience it, you will see that it is a whole world filled with tons of cool things to explore and enjoy. The dinosaurs are just a part of it.
Don’t Starve Together
Don’t Starve Together is an expansion of Don’t Starve that allows multiplayer mode. Originally an indie game, Don’t Starve quickly won the hearts of many players worldwide due to its unique graphics, distinctive style, and captivating gameplay.
In Don’t Starve, you will be thrown into a harsh world with a magical and somewhat eerie color palette. A world that seems eager to consume you. You will have to struggle to gather resources and craft items to survive while exploring and uncovering the secrets in the world of Don’t Starve.
This game is already very addictive, and if you can get a whole group of friends to play together, it’s even better.

However, I think if you’ve bought Don’t Starve, you might as well get Don’t Starve Together as well, since it’s only a bit more expensive. This game is fun to play solo, but playing with a group is even more enjoyable.
Raft
We’ve talked about some brain-intensive games, now let’s switch to a lighter, more cartoonish, and kid-friendly game.
True to its name, Raft offers you an endless adventure in the vast ocean. You will start with a small, cute raft, exploring dreamy islands. Gather resources to upgrade your raft and discover the exciting things that the world of Raft has to offer, both at sea, on land, and underwater.

The gameplay is relatively relaxing and not too stressful, with cartoon-style graphics that do not require high hardware specifications. This will definitely be a game for those who enjoy relaxing while experiencing survival. But be careful of the sharks; getting bitten by them is… game over.
