Specifically, this condition has kept him in a backward-leaning position, with his limbs atrophied and only able to maintain a kneeling posture throughout his life. Oliveira has been kneeling on the ground since he was 7 years old. When he was younger, his mother taught him to read and write at home. His body is severely deformed due to the illness, but he has no issues with respiration, vision, or eating. Not one to succumb to fate, Oliveira began his journey as an inspirational speaker in the early 2000s. He even learned to write with his mouth, operate devices like phones and tablets with his lips, and is now an accountant and consultant. All of his knowledge has been self-taught, as he admits.
In a media interview, Oliveira stated that his life goes on normally, without too much disruption or feeling ashamed of the condition he carries. However, there is a bit of a complication during this time of a complicated pandemic; he must be twice as careful as an ordinary person. In fact, Oliveira has completely canceled all of his speaking engagements, choosing to isolate himself for the past year and a half. “I am a normal person, not seeing life in an upside-down way,” is how Oliveira always begins his speeches.
