Local fishermen believe they are blue whales. However, experts and scientists confirm that these are Bryde’s whales. In recent days, 2 whales have been spotted swimming about 500 meters from the shore to hunt. The large whale is over 15m long, while the smaller one is 5-7m long.
Earlier, at the end of the lunar June, many tourists witnessed a pod of whales hunting in this sea area. Local residents reported that whales have also appeared in the De Gi sea area during the season of anchovies and mackerel near the shore.
The presence of whales swimming in this sea area for many days is quite rare. According to experts, Bryde’s whales (Balaenoptera edeni) are found in the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans, but they are most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions.

Whales primarily appear following migrating food sources, such as schools of small bait fish like anchovies, mackerel, and zooplankton.
After each feeding dive, the whales roll and “tumble” on the surface of the sea.
A moment captured of a whale breaching the surface, mouth open to catch prey in the blue sea, surrounded by soaring seagulls, has delighted onlookers.

The appearance of mother and baby whales has attracted tourists to experience whale watching for several days now.
In recent days, during sunrise or sunset illuminating the sea, hundreds of seagulls have been flying in the direction of the whales, diving in to “steal” fish, especially when the whales open their mouths to hunt, creating a marvelous natural moment in the waters of Central Vietnam.
